TRANSFORMING PRODUCTIVITY WITH THE BIOPSYCHOSOCIAL VISION AT AET

Ensuring a safe and productive work environment is a strategic priority for any industry seeking to remain competitive in today’s market.

The Ergonomic Work Analysis (EWA) is an essential document in this context, as it not only complies with regulatory standards but also directly contributes to operational efficiency and employee well-being. When developed from a biopsychosocial perspective, the EWA goes beyond traditional approaches, addressing workers’ health in a comprehensive and preventive manner.

The biopsychosocial perspective considers three fundamental dimensions that influence the work experience: physical conditions, psychological factors, and the social dynamics within the workplace.

“By incorporating this approach, business owners move beyond viewing workers merely as extensions of machinery and begin to understand them as complete human beings, whose emotional and social conditions have a direct impact on performance,” emphasizes the author of this article.

More than just avoiding legal penalties, the biopsychosocial model strengthens the company’s reputation and reduces costs related to absences, accidents, and turnover. It promotes integrated solutions that range from the use of appropriate protective equipment to improvements in task organization and internal communication.

CASE REPORT: THE NEW WORK DYNAMICS IN A COOKIE FACTORY

I work as an ergonomics consultant, and I was recently hired by a cookie factory facing serious issues with high turnover and constant complaints of fatigue and lack of motivation among its employees.

Productivity was declining, delivery deadlines were not being met, and the overall workplace atmosphere was one of widespread dissatisfaction.

During my initial visits, I noticed that task organization was chaotic, and communication between departments was almost nonexistent. Additionally, the work environment was stressful, with no adequate spaces for breaks or rest.

Based on these observations, I proposed an Ergonomic Work Analysis with a biopsychosocial approach, explaining to management that merely adjusting workstations physically would not be enough—it was also essential to understand how psychological and social factors were affecting employees.

Throughout the assessment, we engaged

in conversations with workers to understand their difficulties and perspectives. One of the most striking findings was the lack of structured breaks, which increased exhaustion and compromised

performance. Another key discovery was that many employees felt disconnected from decision-making processes, leading to a sense of undervaluation. Based on this information, we suggested several important changes:

• Implementation of scheduled breaks throughout the workday.

• Creation of comfortable and quietrestareas .

• Training sessions to improve collaboration between departments.

Regular internal surveys to collect employee feedback.

In less than six months after implementing these measures, the results were remarkable.

The company observed a 40% reduction in stress-related complaints and a 25% increase in productivity. Additionally, the workplace atmosphere improved signific antly. Many employees reported feeling more valued and motivated, which directly impacted the company’s operational results.

This experience reinforced my belief that the biopsychosocial perspective is essential for any organization seeking to align productivity with employee well-being. Business leaders who adopt this approach not only comply with legal requirements but also create a more humane and efficient work environment.

Investing in a comprehensive Ergonomic Work Analysis is not just an obligation— it is an opportunity to turn challenges into a competitive advantage. Companies that prioritize this approach foster safe, human-centered environments aligned with social responsibility values and operational efficiency.

Adopt the biopsychosocial perspective and elevate your organization’s standards.
