Participating in the 9th International Secondary Lead & Battery Recycling Conference (ISLC) and the 21st Asian Battery Conference (ABC), held between September 1–5, 2025, in Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia, was an enriching experience not only for the technical content but also for the strategic dimension these gatherings provided.

What impressed me the most was the atmosphere of convergence: companies and experts from different countries coming together with the same purpose — to rethink the future of the lead and lithium battery industry through the lens of sustainability and innovation. Each presentation reinforced the collective pursuit of solutions that combine industrial development, circular economy, and reduced environmental impacts.

Antares’ participation with the EcoEscória (EcoSlag) project was met with great enthusiasm. This unprecedented study, conducted over more than six years, revealed the potential for reusing lead slag — previously considered merely a waste by-product — as a raw material for cement production. It became clear to all that this is not just a technical project, but a transformative initiative with the potential to generate both economic and environmental value on a global scale.

Another remarkable aspect was the pride of representing part of the Brazilian industry in this international arena. Brazil, through Antares, demonstrated that it has an active voice and concrete solutions for challenges that engage the entire global recycling and energy storage chain.

I left these events with a renewed conviction that we are at a decisive moment for the industry: more than ever, research, innovation, and environmental responsibility must go hand in hand. EcoEscória is clear proof that it is possible to turn liabilities into sustainable and competitive solutions.
