CATL plans to produce electric vehicle batteries in Brazil

Representatives of the Chinese company Contemporary Amperex Technology Limited (CATL), the world leader in battery manufacturing, met in Brasília with the Minister of Mines and Energy (MME), Alexandre Silveira, to strengthen a partnership aimed at boosting domestic battery production.

The meeting marks progress in Brazil–China integration in clean technologies, seeking to strengthen electric mobility and position Brazil as a global reference in renewable energy and energy storage.

Currently, CATL is the largest battery manufacturer worldwide and a supplier of solutions for electric vehicles and diverse energy storage systems. With a 39% share of the global EV battery market and 37% in the energy storage sector, the company is seen as a key partner in driving the energy transition in Brazil and beyond.

Brazil–China Cooperation

Minister Silveira emphasized that international cooperation is essential to consolidate Brazil’s leadership in the renewable energy agenda:

“The partnership with CATL symbolizes the international private sector’s confidence in Brazil’s energy potential. We want to transform our leadership in clean energy into jobs, income, and innovation for the Brazilian people,” he stated, highlighting the government’s efforts to attract new investments in renewable energy.
