Mineração Taboca Announces US$100 Million Investment Cycle to Modernize and Expand Operations in Amazonas
Project includes mineral exploration, modernization of processing plants, and expansion of smelter operations.
With a focus on technological innovation and sustainability, Mineração Taboca recently announced a comprehensive investment program that will allocate US$100 million through 2028, with the goal of doubling the production capacity of its mining, mineral processing, and metallurgical operations. The announcement represents the first strategic investment made after China Nonferrous Trade Co. Ltd. assumed management of the company, marking a new phase of growth and operational strengthening.
“This investment cycle represents a fundamental step toward delivering on our plans to increase the competitiveness of the Pitinga Mine in Amazonas. More than increasing our capacity, this investment will boost the economy of Amazonas and strengthen Brazil’s role in the global critical minerals supply chain.”
The initiative includes investments in mineral exploration, upgrades to processing plants, and modernization of smelter facilities, expanding the company’s production capacity amid growing global demand for strategic minerals.
Mineral Exploration: Resource Expansion and Circular Economy
The mineral exploration program will receive approximately US$25 million in investments, with the goal of increasing mineral resources by the end of 2028. Activities will focus on three key areas:
- Pitinga Mine (AM): expanding geological knowledge and improving the use of areas already in operation;
- Tailings reprocessing: aligned with global trends in circular economy practices and more efficient mining;
- The new Água Boa target: identified as a strategic area for expanding the company’s mineral resources.
Processing Plants: Efficiency, Automation, and Quality
The investment plan will allocate more than US$20 million exclusively to upgrading the Mine’s processing plants. Starting in March 2026, Taboca will begin a comprehensive process assessment and metallurgical testing program to eliminate bottlenecks and upgrade equipment. This will culminate in the renewal of the plants based on industry best practices and research and development activities. The initiative is expected to generate significant technical and economic performance gains.
Smelters: Modernization and Increased Production Capacity
The investment cycle also includes the modernization of the company’s smelter facilities, with completion scheduled for the end of 2027 and investments of approximately US$43 million. The initiative aims to expand production capacity and raise the operational standards of the metallurgical units, keeping pace with the growth of mining and mineral processing activities.
Socioeconomic Development in Amazonas
With regard to sustainability, US$12 million will be invested in ESG initiatives — environmental, social, and governance — including infrastructure improvements at the company’s facilities aimed at promoting the well-being of employees and contractors.
